Facebook changes its name to Meta. According to her, the new name better describes what it does, as it expands its reach for social media into areas such as virtual reality (VR). The BBC News Portal tells us this.
The head of the company, which owns the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp platforms, Mark Zuckerberg announced the new name along with plans to build a “metaversion” and thus an online world where people can communicate, work and play in a virtual environment, often with the help of VR. As he explained, the current brand “no longer represents everything we do today or what we will do in the future” and the change needed. “I hope over time they will view us as a metaversion company and I want to anchor our work and our identity to what our building is about,” he said in a virtual conference, adding that the work would focus on two different segments - their future applications and platforms.
