INDIAN WELLS - Spanish tennis player Paula Bados won the singles at the prestigious WTA Championships in Indian Wells. In the final, 22-time champion Victoria Azarenka beat Belarusian champion Victoria Azarenka twice after a three-hour battle of 7:6 (5), 2:6, 7:6 (2).
Bados enjoyed winning the title on the event’s first launch in the California desert. The Spaniard did not lose even a hundred until the last duel and in the decisive duo blocked Azarenka’s path to history. No player has won three women’s singles titles at Indian Wells, and Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova won the tournament in 2007 and 2002.
