St. MORITZ – Italian figure skater Federica Brignoni won the World Cup on Sunday in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Moretz. Behind her, her compatriot Elena Kortunova lost eleven hundredths of a second, and the leader of the general classification, American Mikaela Shiffrin, took third place (+0.43 seconds).
The race started with a difference of 40 minutes. The jury had to postpone its start due to strong winds, and the slopes on the track started from a low point. Sunday’s races were less closed than Saturday’s and had more slipways that suited the thoroughbred and especially Italian slopes. The team held as many as five positions in the top ten.
Saturday’s race home winner, Lara Gutova-Bahramova, was in green with starting number 7 in the first split. However, she then lost her balance very quickly and headed into the safety nets. She managed to break the dangerous fall, and after a while she stood up on her own. After a short break, Brignoni showed off the fastest ride on the jersey, celebrating her 17th victory in the prestigious series and her fifth in the Super G.
Sofia Joggio, winner of Lake Louise and second of Super G on Saturday at St. Moretz, finished sixth and headed Gott Bahrami at the top of the discipline classification by 40 points. Shiffrin leads the overall standings by 90 points, ahead of Giorgio.
The third is with 185 points short of American Petra Flova, who at St. Moretz did not start. During the Olympic season, the big crystal ball defender was ordered to break, with the exception of Lake Louise and St. Louis. Moretz will also miss the race in Val d’Isere and the next World Cup race on December 21 will be the Giant Slalom in Courchevel, France.
