HAIL – Slovak motorcyclist Stefan Svetko finished 11th in the first stage on Sunday of the 44th Dakar Grand Prix. The Slovnaft Rally Team competitor reached 5:07:16 in the 333km long section, losing over 17 minutes to winner from Australia Daniel Sanders. Pablo Quintanilla of Chile came in second, while Mathias Falkner came in third.

“The first stage in Dakar was very good for me at first. I was doing really well, and I kept a good pace. But at 250 km I had a really bad fall, damaging a motorbike, and also laying a bit on the ground. When I saw broken devices On the ground, I thought in the first minute that the Dakar was coming to an end, but after a while I somehow put it together and reached the finish line 80 km ‘The mechanic will collect it tomorrow, he has faith to do. I am very happy to be able to continue tomorrow.” Svetko stated on his official Facebook page.
Svetko finished 32nd in the lead on Saturday, but moved significantly ahead on Sunday. He climbed ten places overall and lost over 28 minutes to leader Sanders. The marathon stage was supposed to be on the program on Monday, but due to the flooding, the organizers included a regular special stage.
