In the previous section, I introduced you to my project of turning a barn into a workshop. I started tearing down the barn and found space for a small basement. For today’s part, I will finish the demolition work, dismantle the original roof over the barn, and complete the barn walls.
Before demolishing, I will deepen the hole in the barn so that it is deep enough for the future vault.
I dismantle the original roof of the barn and fold the panels from the roof into saws about 50 cm above the original roof. This will create a ceiling more than two meters high.
After dismantling the roof I can finish the demolition work, as the section I need to dismantle was the load-bearing wall of the original roof. I don’t throw bricks off the wall because I will continue to use it for construction.
I will brick the original barn door, using bricks from a selected section, which I will pre-clean from the original mortar.
After building the original door, I fill the resulting joints with PUR foam.
Using aerated concrete blocks, I build the walls in the barn to the height of the new ceiling.
Even in this case, I fill the joints with PUR foam.
I already have the walls almost ready and next time I will start building a small cellar, which will serve as a storage space for vegetables.
