Edmonton – The coaching staff of the Slovak U-20 hockey team on Friday announced the final nominations for the Junior World Championships in Canada. The trio of Oliver Fatoll, Simon Grosch and Oliver Stumpel did not make the final 25-man shortlist. This was reported by hockeysl Slovakiaia.sk.

The top two candidates have already left the Red Deere national team camp and will travel from Edmonton via Toronto to Vienna on Christmas Day. Oliver Stumpel will leave the team on December 25 and return to NAHL’s Corpus Christi Ice Rise Club.

“We had to make an embarrassing decision. We had a long discussion and finally decided that Oliver Vattol, Simon Grosch and Oliver Stumpel were leaving the team.” Coach Evan Fenech said, and on the sidelines of the reasons, they decided that the aforementioned trio was not correct, adding: “Who?I have to say that this was a very difficult and long decision. Together with our colleagues, we tried to find the best compromise that would be most beneficial to the team. In the end, less decision was made to play games against boys. However, we believe that even such an unpopular decision will propel them forward in their careers. Hockey is the same.”

There are 25 hockey players in Slovakia’s final shortlist for the Junior Championships, three of whom are goalkeepers. “We’ve been able to put together an amazing team with a clear identity. We have the experience, the predation, the youth, the quality and the players who are ready to take the hits and tackle tough battles. We’ve made a really strong team.” Added SR “20” trainer for hockeysl Slovakiaia.sk.
