Most European football clubs and players have long since moved away from the Premier League project, but Juventus Turin and its captain Giorgio Chiellini are a different case. The experienced defender still claims that it is worth reviving the idea of creating the millionaire competition for European club Karim.
“The future of football is increasingly towards a European approach compared to the national leagues. With all due respect, but a player who plays for Juventus wants to compare himself with the best player in Europe. And that is exactly what it is. Not only the athletes but also the fans want to see what it is “This is the only way forward in a future in which the best will face the best,” said Giorgio Chiellini.
The intended Superliga project envisioned 20 clubs participating, while fifteen must have specific clubs, respectively. The participation is protected because it belongs to the portfolio of the richest European football markets. The remaining five seats were to be opened to other clubs. After a massive wave of rejection by UEFA and a wide range of fans, only FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus Turin were left with the original twelve founding members.
“Football is the most beautiful sport in the world, but its system can still be improved in Europe. We need to reform the European football calendar. Take the example of the Americans. That relevant institutions at European level and clubs meet and come up with something,” Kelly continued.
The relentless 37-year-old also supports a reduction in the number of participants in Serie A from 20 to 18. The reason is the lower number of matches at home in the crowded football calendar. “We can even go back to 16 teams, but I think 18 is the right number. We need to be more competitive and give more space for matches at European level. The world is moving forward and we must not be left behind.” Added this year’s European Champions captain.
