The new court map, approved by the government on Wednesday, provides for the abolition of four district courts. After the new, there will be three districts of regional courts with their seat in Trnava, Šilina and Prešov, and municipal courts will be established in Kosice and Bratislava.

The remaining courts will serve as offices or headquarters. The reform proposal goes to Parliament.

fight corruption

The objectives of the new court map from the Ministry of Justice workshop are faster and better judicial decisions and at the same time better conditions for judges’ work and decision-making. Justice Minister Maria Kulikova talks about the need for random selection of judges. “Especially in light of everything we’re dealing with in the judiciary now and what level of uncertainty it is, I think it’s important that the system be set up more so that it doesn’t give room for corruption.”

Practically speaking, there will be a geographic increase in district court areas. This means that some courts will become workplaces. The District Court of Partizansky, Skalica, Banovce nad Bibravo, and Kemarok should be abolished. The business registry agenda shall be centered in the جيلilina District Court.

“The combined circuits for district courts will be large enough to meet the criteria for minimum judicial circuit size, with the optimum minimum number of three specialist judges across all major agendas.” specified by the Ministry of Justice in the submission report. The expansion of these constituencies is intended to provide more scope for the implementation of the criterion for random selection of judges. Commercial disputes must be concentrated in eight local courts.

Changes in Kosice

The changes also affect regional courts. Their headquarters will be New Trnava for Western Slovakia, ilina for Central Slovakia, and Prešov for Eastern Slovakia. Of the remaining five regional courts (Bratislava, Banska Bystrica, Kosice, Nitra, Trenčín), workplaces will remain.

City courts will be established in the capital and in the city of the East. In the case of the Košice Municipal Court, a single district has been proposed by merging the districts of Kosice I District Court, Kosice II District Court and Košice-Okoli District Court. “The Košice District will also include the satellite district adjacent to the city of Košice, which is currently part of the Košice-okolie District Court.” Explained by the petitioner. The Bratislava Municipal Court Circuit consists of the present Circuits of Bratislava District Courts 1 through 5.
