Weekend Preview: Ironman Mallorca 70.3 and Swashbuckler

The big race on the international circuit is Ironman Mallorca 70.3 - which features some of the best European middle distance triathletes - as well as plenty of British stars.

On domestic shores is The Swashbuckler, a middle distance triathlon in the New Forest - the perfect preperation for those tackling Forestman later this year.

Tamsin Lewis out injured for 2-3 months

Dr Tamsin Lewis, who has been struggling with a run-related injury all year, has today revealed that what she had been told was a peroneal muscular tear is in fact a fibular stress fracture.

The news means that she will not be able to do any weight bearing excersize for three weeks and will not be racing again until late July and possible early August.

The diagnosis makes her performance at Tristar Mallorca, where she came 2nd, even more impressive.

Weekend Preview: Long course pro’s in action

For a very busy week on the WTC circuit, there are remarkably few pro’s hailing from the British Isle’s in action this weekend. There are some fantastic races though in action, the results of which will have an impact on the WTC rankings table.

This week will also see the very first middle distance race on UK shores - The Marshman - which contains a very decent age-group field and some familiar names. I can’t wait!

Tamsin Lewis withdraws from Ironman St Croix 70.3

Dr Tamsin Lewis has today announced that she has withdrawn from Ironman St Croix 70.3, taking place on the 6th May.

Lewis has been struggling with a run injury but had managed to take 2nd at the recent Tristar race in Mallorca. The extra miles of an Ironman 70.3 and the effects of that performance have been enough to persuade Lewis to withdraw - and she tweeted that she hasn’t been able to run since that race.

The race is in the news today as Lance Armstrong has added it to its schedule.

British triathletes dominate at Tristar Mallorca

Dr Tamsin Lewis is racing Tristar Mallorca

After a will-she-wont-she debate on Twitter, Dr Tamsin Lewis has confirmed today that she will definitely be racing tomorrow at Tristar Mallorca.

Lewis, who came 2nd last year, had previously indicated that she was unsure whether she would be able to race at all, considering she has suffered for 8 weeks with a running injury, caused by peroneal brevis.

She tweeted:

1st race of the season coming up. No running for 4weeks so it’ll be interesting! Bring on the @ Portocolom

Whilst coming back from injury will no doubt prove challenging for Lewis, she will at least be able to reflect that at least the run leg here is 10k and as such the race is usually settled on the 100k bike leg.

Dr Tamsin Lewis will also have one eye on her “A” race at Ironman St Croix 70.3 later in the year.
