Skipper wins Marshman and all the weekend action

In my weekend preview last Thursday I said this would be a quiet bank holiday for British action. I was wrong!

Wins and podiums were abound and the first UK middle distance triathlon, Marshman, was raced under difficult weather conditions were the field were obliterated by Joe Skipper.

Scott Neyedli unsuccessful in Wiggle Athlete search

One of Britain’s most decorated long course triathletes, Scott Neyedli, has been unsuccessful in his attempt to gain sponsorship through the Wiggle Athlete search.

Scott had made it down to the final 20 but did not get enough votes from the public to take the overall prize.

I spoke to Scott last month about the ‘financial tightrope’ that elite triathletes walk and his struggle with balancing the books when he was a full-time triathlete.

Neyedli down to final 20

British long distance pro (and former British record holder) Scott Neyedli has reached the final 20 in Wiggle’s Athlete Search 2012.

Challenge Cairns is now Ironman Cairns

Challenge Cairns has been rebranded Ironman Cairns, according to a release from the WTC. The rebrand will come into effect immediately (the race is scheduled for June 3rd 2012) and offers another race on the calendar for pro’s and elite age-groupers to pick up Kona slots and pro points.

Scott Neyeldi, former winner of Ironman UK and an established pro, has announced through his website his race plans for 2012, and also reveals how difficult life as a long course pro actually can be.

Included in the post were plans to race as a pro at Challenge Cairns and Challenge Henley. The British race is now assembling a very nice and experienced field for its second run.

However, reading between the lines you can see that it is not easy for a pro triathlete to compete. Mentioned was injuries, his inability to race and train full-time and training on a budget.
