Weekend Preview: Ironman Lanzarote, Ironman Texas and much more….

It’s a big weekend on the WTC Ironman circuit this weekend - with the series rolling into Europe and one of the biggest US races in town. When you add to the mix Ironman Florida 70.3, Ironman Austria - and on the domestic scene the Marazion Middle - there’s lots of build up to cover.

Here is your weekly round up of who is racing where!

Lowe podiums at Ironman New Orleans 70.3

Ironman New Orleans

Tom Lowe showed his class and no ring rust at Ironman New Orleans 70.3 this weekend.

The poor weather conditions meant it was raced as a run-bike-run format and the former duathlete was always at the sharp end of the race.

Tom Lowe racing at Ironman New Orlean’s 70.3

Tom Lowe, former British Ironman record holder, has confirmed on Twitter that he will be racing this weekend at the Ironman New Orleans 70.3 event.

Lowe has confirmed late for the race but is one of the most talented triathletes on the circuit, having made an immediate impact on the distance when he transferred from the duathlon discipline and gained a pro license.

The swim leg is currently under threat and may start as a duathlon but Lowe has expressed that he hopes this does not happen:

In New Orleans for the 70.3 this Sunday. Weather looks shocking for race day. Don’t want swim cancelled but I’ll take the headwind on bike.

Tom Lowe will be joined at Ironman New Orleans 70.3 by Robbie Wade and will be hoping that he can produce a result that will add to his 2,300 KPR points already established.

Weekend Preview: Ironman South Africa and Ironman New Orleans 70.3

It’s been a bit of a quiet month so far in respect of WTC putting on their races, but this weekend see’s one of the big ones going ahead in Pretoria and an American 70.3 race over in New Orleans.

British interest in both in the pro race despite Jodie Swallow withdrawing from one of her A priority races due to a foot injury.

Ironman Galveston 70.3: Brit’s in action

OK - you might have noticed that Lance Armstrong was in this race. It’s kind off what every triathlon site and news feed focussed on in the build up - but the reality is there was so much more to this race in both the men’s and the ladies fields. Being the American WTC Championships, Ironman Galveston 70.3 attracted the cream of the crop in American racers. In the men’s race, Timothy O’Donnell was first place, holding off Sebastien Kienle (2nd) and Ronnie Schildknecht (3rd). The race was a speedy affair with a predictable thrash-fest being conducted on the bike leg.

The ladies race was dominated by Kelly Williamson from USA, who started as pre-race favourite and lived up to that billing. She was followed over the line (after a 5:20 second margin) by Yvonne Van Vlerken and Amy Marsh.

There were representatives from Great Britain and Ireland here - and not all made it to the finish line. Read more for how our Brit’s got on in Texas.
