Sturdy and Hutson win Swashbuckler plus other results

There was a cracking race in cold weather over in the New Forest. Luckily, Swashbuckler was just warm enough for a shortened swim to go ahead and Tom Sturdy and Elizabeth Hutson took the wins just in a tight finish. More on that below.

Emma Kate Lidbury defends her Ironman Mallorca 70.3 title in style

Emma-Kate Lidbury is a true star of British middle distance racing and further cemented this opinion by defending her first Ironman 70.3 title here in Mallorca. Lidbury led pretty much the whole way to take the title in a time of 4:39:05. The other stunning news of note was the performance of British age-grouper, Georgie Rutherford who came 6th overall.

The men’s race headlines will be dominated by the news that Raelert turned up and smashed the field in a time of 3:57:08. The first British male through the line was Jon Hotchkiss, in 14th.

Weekend Preview: Ironman Mallorca 70.3 and Swashbuckler

The big race on the international circuit is Ironman Mallorca 70.3 - which features some of the best European middle distance triathletes - as well as plenty of British stars.

On domestic shores is The Swashbuckler, a middle distance triathlon in the New Forest - the perfect preperation for those tackling Forestman later this year.

Lidbury wins and Halksworth takes 2nd - Challenge Fuerteventura

Some amazing results coming out of Fuerteventura this morning and Emma-Kate Lidbury continues her rise through the elite ranks with a superb win here.

Not only did Emma-Kate Lidbury take the win, but fellow Brit Lucy Gossage recovered from a tough start to the run leg to storm into second, and Dan Halksworth was in the mix right from the off and finished in second place.

Race preview: Challenge Fuerteventura and Tri-Star Majorca

Ignore the wet and windy conditions outside your window - the action this week is in Spain! Two big races have attracted plenty of British pro’s in search of nice prize pots and top racing action.

The Challenge series comes to Fuerteventura for a middle distance race and has attracted 7 professionals from British shores - including the comeback race for our most decorated long course athlete.

Tristar Majorca, has attracted a large crowd including 9 professionals.

Abu Dhabi Triathlon results - The Brits do alright

Wow. What a race. Casual fans of triathlon or non-converts sometimes wonder what can be exciting about a long distance 8+ hour race but it’s days like this that make you remember how great these kind of races are.

Both the men’s and womens editions produced fantastic races that ended in very close and relatively sprint finishes.

The mens race was at such a pace that the top 10 finishers broke the course record and in the ladies race the winner produced a composed and exciting finish. Unfortunately for the first year ever we had no podium Brits but that’s not to say that there weren’t some great performances to report on.

Middle distance specialist Pro Emma-Kate Lidbury is finishing of a training camp in the Canary Islands ahead of her first big challenge of 2012. Whilst much of her season is geared around her specialist distance, the Abu Dhabi Tri will be a huge challenge over the longer distance and will really put the hours in heat training to the test.
