American basketball players have won gold in the other three Olympics, while they have not lost a duel in Beijing 2008, London 2012 or Rio de Janeiro 2016.
Reluctance after seventeen years
Before Sunday, their last Olympic loss at the 2004 Olympics in Athens was in the semi-finals with Argentina. Under five circles, the Americans hesitated seventeen years later.

In the history of the Olympic Games, this is only the sixth loss for the US team in the 144th game. In the past, the Americans have lost three times in the aforementioned Athens and once in Seoul in 1988 and Munich in 1972.
The French team’s top scorer in Sunday’s duel was Evan Fournier’s 28-point Boston Celtics overseas.
The Italians defeated the Germans
In the American selection, Jrue Holiday of the NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks was the best in that direction with eighteen points.
In Sunday’s doubles of the men’s basketball tournament at the Tokyo Olympics, the Czech team defeated Iran 84:78, the Italians defeated the Germans 92:82 and Australia defeated Nigeria 84:67.
