Beyond Going Long

Sony’s Jim Ryan wants ‘tens or hundreds of millions of players’ to play PlayStation exclusives all over the world

However, one platform is not enough for such plans.

PlayStation President and CEO Jim Ryan said at the GI Live (Games Industry Live) event in London that Sony is currently a huge hit if the game has a user base of around 20 million users. “We compare games to movies or music, but they can be enjoyed by an unlimited audience,” He evaluated Ryan, noting the limitations of the consoles.

Given that previous big exclusives like Horizon: Zero Dawn or Days Gone could already play on PC and the fourth installment of the Uncharted series is on the way, it’s no surprise that Sony has clearly decided to expand into the PC platform as well. And not only this. Reports of the arrival of new mobile phone titles from Sony’s studio workshops have also been confirmed.

So it is clear that PlayStation, as a platform, is no longer enough for the Japanese giant.

“I would like to experience a world where tens or even hundreds of millions of players can enjoy PlayStation games. I am convinced that the art that our studies show is in many cases the best in the world. It frustrates me that we have limited this wonderful art to 20 or 30 million players,” This infuriated the PlayStation chief, who was quoted as Server VG247.

What do you think about this? Are you against or for the exclusive console?
