Sculpture Symposium in Nové Zámky will memorialize artist Juraj Meliš

Nové Zámky, August 29 (TASR) – Honoring sculptor and educator Juraj Meliš is one of the goals of the Nové Zámky Sculpture Symposium. It will be held from August 30 to September 12 in the Green Valley near the Astronomical Treasury. The impetus for its creation was the awarding of the In Memoriam Prize to a citizen of Nové Zámky, academic sculptor and teacher Juraj Meliš. Part of the multi-year project is also a vision to rename the space near the astronomical cabinet into a park that will bear this artist’s name.

In the second year of the symposium, two statues of Joseph Korenc and Martin Pokorny, disciples of Melich, will be erected in Novi Zamky. “Artist Joseph Korenek will create a work of concrete. Martin Pocornu will use concrete, metal and plastic when working on the sculpture”, Inform the organizers.

Professor Juraj Melisch worked at the Academy of Dramatic Art and also ran a sculpture studio at the Academy of Fine Arts. He devoted himself to free sculpting, monumental creativity, painting and drawings. “The garden in its name, works and that of its students and colleagues has the ambition not only to be a place of presentation, education and relaxation, but also an important place on the map of Nové Zámky suitable for targeted visits,” Mention the organizers of the symposium.
