On Wednesday, Cristiano Ronaldo started against Villarreal in his 178th Champions League match. Manchester United finally saved the Portuguese footballer, scoring the decisive goal at 2:1.
The United striker has overtaken Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas in the number of starts in the prestigious competition.
Ronaldo played 101 matches in the center of the capital for Real Madrid, 23 of which were added as a player for Juventus Turin, against Villarreal, which was his 54th match in the “Red Devils” shirt.
He made his debut in the number one European Cup almost 18 years ago, when on 1 October 2003 he was part of United’s squad at FC Stuttgart.
And the “Red Devils” were signed in the first half by goalkeeper David de Gea, who nullified the dangerous attempts of Arnot Danjuma and Buck Alcasero.
After the 53rd minute, the visitors tied 1-1 after a superb pass from the left by Alcacera.
United did not finish the match, after an hour of play, Alex Telles called up the left-back and when it looked like the two teams would share the points, Jesse Lingard pushed the ball to Ronald and he decided it was.
With 136 goals, he took first place in the historical ranking of gunners.
