When Slovakian coach Craig Ramsey published his Olympic qualification list, hockey fans debated whether it was appropriate to nominate Simon Nemec and Juraj Slavkowski. Although both are among the most promising Slovak hockey players, they are still only 17 years old.
After today’s match, no one doubted that they were right. The youngsters put in an excellent performance and took part in Slovakia’s 5:1 victory over Poland.
“We didn’t welcome them because they are young but because they are good players,” Ramsey told the press after the match.
In contrast to the match against Austria, the Slovaks managed to make significant progress. “That’s probably the only thing I’m more conservative about,” the coach said of the power of play.
It is scheduled to be decided on Sunday whether his team will qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing next year. The Slovaks had everything in their hands before the match with Belarus.
Encouragement to all Slovaks
National team coach Ramsey praised Slavkovsky and Germany “the two guys played well”. He even said in the press after his victory over Poland that they could be an example for “everyone in Slovakia”.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are; if you work hard, we will wait for you and also give you a chance,” he smiled.
It was the best evidence of their benefit from the Slovak national team
