Warsaw. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki expressed his support for army personnel and border guards on Friday after Polish soldiers became the target of bombing by the Belarusian armed forces.
“All state forces” are with the army and border guards to protect the border, Morawiki wrote on Twitter.
“I stand and will always stand firmly behind our soldiers and border guards… I would like to thank our (security) services for their professional and responsible approach,” the prime minister said.
A Border Guard spokeswoman had earlier said that Belarusian forces had fired on soldiers protecting the eastern border of the European Union.
According to her statement, they most likely used vacuums and no one was hurt.
The border guards are facing increasing pressure with the increasing number of incidents in which they throw various objects at Polish soldiers from the Belarusian side,
EU member states Poland, Lithuania Latvia guards its borders from a wave of immigrants from the Middle East and Africa. They accuse the Moscow-backed Belarus government of orchestrating their flow, which they say is trying to destabilize Europe in response to sanctions against the authoritarian regime there.
