Triathlon community pays tribute to #19 Nick Thomas

The long distance triathlon and swimming community has been shocked by the sad passing of Nick Thomas, 45 from
Ellesmere, Shropshire.

Nick, who wore the #19 moniker proudly following his successful Arch to Arc attempt in 2014, was attempting a solo channel swim and was pulled unconscious from the water as he neared the end of the 21-mile swim. A spokesman for the Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation said he was taken from the water “less than a mile from the finish in France”.

As a measure of the man and the sadness at his passing, tributes have been paid by hundreds online and the news has been covered internationally, with a few posted by us below.

Beyond Going Long would like to extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the passing of Nick Thomas.
