3rd for McNamee and Charles at historic Ironman Lanzarote
It was a historic 25th edition of Ironman Lanzarote and for a race rich in history, it was to be a race rich in quality, with the Ironman World Champion Jan Frodeno and a whole host of talent in the race.
British interest was more than represented by two barnstorming performances from David McNamee and professional debutante Lucy Charles that were rewarded by third, but also present and racing were Stephen Bayliss, Caroline Livesey, Nico Munoz Ward, Stephen Bayliss and Craig Twigg.
Men
1st – Jesse Thomas 8:42:33
2nd – Jan Frodeno 8:44:38
3rd - David McNamee 8:46:36
4th – Chris Baird 8:48:35
5th – Ivan Rana 8:50:09
12th - Nico Munoz Ward 9:22:09
14th - Graeme Stewart 10:19:48
DNF - Stephen Bayliss, Craig Twigg
Women
1st – Tine Holst 10:02:35
2nd – Alexandra Tondeur 10:04:53
3rd - Lucy Charles 10:10:13
4th – Diana Riesler 10:24:52
5th - Caroline Livesey 10:28:32
Key takeaways for us at Beyond Going Long was Jan Frodeno stamping his card for Kona. He now travels to Roth for a world record attempt. David McNamee putting in a very competitive class performance mixing it with the world elite, mens long distance racing is healthy at the moment! Lucy Charles impressing as a pro and having made the required leaps forward whilst training full time - nearly 20 minutes knocked off her Kona AG winning time from last year. The always impressive Caroline Livesey who races pro but still holds down a demanding full time job.
