Ruzafa and Erbenova win XTERRA Spain
Three-time and reigning XTERRA World Champion Ruben Ruzafa and two-time XTERRA European Tour Champion Helena Erbenova captured the XTERRA Spain Championship crowns for the second straight year this afternoon in Extremedura. Meanwhile, Lou Fox picked up a big 3rd place - her best on the XTERRA circuit - and big points towards the European tour title.
The win is Ruzafa’s 11th in a row since winning the World title in 2013. For Erbenova, it’s her first win since taking the XTERRA Italy crown last year.
In the men’s race Ruzafa was up to 2nd place by the 5K mark on the bike then took the lead at the 8K mark and never looked back. The day was very hot at 35 degreesC (95F), but was actually cooler than the predicted 39C (102F). The story of the day was not Ruzafa’s win, but Albert Soley coming from way back out of the swim to a brilliant second place.
For the women Erbenova took the lead from Hungary’s Brigitta Poor by the 20K mark on the bike and held on for the win.
