After a successful performance in the Hlinka Gretzka Cup with a historic position in second place, another international event awaits the Slovak national under-18 hockey team.
From Thursday, he will present himself at the Olympic Hopes Championships in Budapest with a weaker team of cards, but also with a significantly altered roster. Of the team that presented itself in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, there are only seven players in it.
The coach of the Slovak Republic “18” Ivan Venis admitted that the candidacy of the training camp in Pečani and the subsequent championship in Budapest was very difficult to generate. At the last moment, the technical staff had to make several corrections in it for various reasons.
“Many players refused to take part in the national team camp because they wanted to fight for a place in the clubs, which I was not surprised by. Especially after the result of the ‘eighteen’ in the Gretzka Cup. I will tell the truth, the nomination does not fully live up to our expectations” Feneš told hockeysl Slovakia.sk.
At the same time, he added, there is already a group of menthol hockey players for the current player, interested in continuing on the “eighteen” within the central training project.
Starting soon: “In the current staff, the basis of the central training project group. So at least 10 to 12 of them are interested in this journey that we are offering. They want to improve it, they want to use the conditions in Slovakia. We are looking forward to working with them.”
The year for the seasonal operation of the project will be the Olympic Hopes Championship in Budapest, which was clearly won by the representatives of Slovakia under 18 under the leadership of the current technical staff.
This year, they will compete with peers from Italy, Poland and Hungary. Every international encounter is welcome. It may seem that the level in Budapest is at a slightly weaker level, but it should not be underestimated. We have to prepare well and go to win the championship,” Added Feneš to the website of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH).
