Britain and France on Friday saw a high daily increase in new corona virus cases since the outbreak began. In both countries, the AFP reports that the increase in infections is due to Omigran’s new fast-spreading corona virus variant.

The United Kingdom has been recording a daily increase in new cases for several consecutive days. In the last 24 hours, they have registered 122,186 new cases there, which is 2,000 more than the previous day. With 106,022 new arrivals on Wednesday, Britain alone surpassed 100,000 cases a day.

The number of cases in the UK has increased by 48 per cent in the last seven days compared to the previous week.

However, the number of hospital admissions and deaths is growing the fastest ever, AFP notes.

Britain has the highest number of corona virus deaths among European countries. There were 137 deaths on Friday, and nearly 148,000 people have died in Britain since the outbreak began.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said Thursday that the risk of hospital admission for omigran infections is 70 percent lower than for delta infections, according to data collected so far. However, these figures are only preliminary.
For the upcoming Christmas holidays, British authorities will not release additional figures on the number of cases and deaths until Monday 27 December.

For the second day in a row, a daily increase in new cases of corona virus infection has been recorded in France as well.

In the last 24 hours, 94,124 newcomers have arrived, and that number is expected to increase due to Omigron’s expanding variation and the Christmas holidays, during which time more people are meeting, AFP writes.

In France, more than 16,000 people have been hospitalized with covid disease, 3,254 of whom are in the intensive care unit. Since the outbreak, 122,462 corona virus-related deaths have been reported in France, with 167 deaths reported on Friday.

In France, about 76.5 percent of the population is fully vaccinated against the corona virus, and the French government is urging citizens to be vaccinated with a third dose.

Many Australian states are recording record increases

The DPA said on Saturday that several Australian states had seen record-breaking increases in corona virus infections in the past 24 hours.

In New South Wales (NSW), Australia’s most populous state, 6,288 new cases were reported on Saturday, up from 6,1212 the previous day.

Queensland (765) and Tasmania (33) also saw the highest increase in the number of victims from the eruption. Corona infection has been confirmed in 2108 people in the state of Victoria.

Australian health officials have urged residents to celebrate Christmas outside as much as possible to reduce the risk of infection. In addition, the Ministry of Health encourages people to ventilate frequently and urges those with symptoms of COVID-19 to stay indoors.

The country is currently battling the worst wave of epidemics since the outbreak of the corona virus. A new, highly contagious variant of Omigran has already been reported by authorities in every Australian state.

The DPA says most Australian territories have tightened anti-epidemic rules, including the reintroduction of public service obligations, in response to the worst epidemic.

To date, more than 260,000 corona virus infections and more than 2,100 deaths have been reported in Australia.
