Migrants die at Poland’s border with Belarus: this is the fifth time in recent days!

Elements of the Polish border guards said on the social network that in the early hours of the morning a group of people from Iraq stopped 500 meters from the state border with Poland’s eastern neighbor. One of the men is believed to have died of a heart attack and rescue efforts to recover her were unsuccessful. Another man in the group was hospitalized after testing positive for coronavirus.

The Department of Political Affairs said the information provided by the border guards could not be independently verified because Poland had declared a state of emergency in the border area with Belarus and neither journalists nor representatives of humanitarian organizations had been able to access the area. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that the bodies of three people were found in the border area on the Polish side on Sunday. They allegedly tried to enter Poland illegally.

The Polish government blames Lukashenko

The government in Warsaw accuses Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of moving refugees from crisis regions to the external borders of the European Union in an orderly manner. Lukashenko said in late May this year that Minsk would not prevent migrants from traveling to the European Union in response to tougher Western sanctions on Belarus.
