Jinping warned Biden against supporting Taiwan independence

According to Biden, the United States continues to support the “one China” policy.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned White House President Joe Biden that supporting Taiwan independence is like “playing with fire”. AFP reported on Tuesday, referring to Chinese state media.

dangerous trend

“The Taiwan authorities have repeatedly tried to rely on the independence of the United States,” said Xi Jinping, reported by Chinese news agency Senchu, and said that some people in the United States intend to use Taiwan to control China.

“This trend is very dangerous and is like playing with fire. Those who play with fire will get burned,” he said.

In a phone conversation with the Chinese president on Monday, US President Joe Biden expressed his “concern” about human rights violations and drew attention to “unilateral” steps to change Taiwan’s status.

Complicated relationships

According to Biden, the United States continues to support the “one China” policy and does not agree with unilateral efforts to change the current situation or possibly weaken peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The US president also drew attention to human rights and China’s actions in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong.

During more than three hours of talks, the presidents also talked about the difficult relations between their countries and emphasized a responsible approach to competition.

Biden also stressed the need to protect American workers and companies from China’s unfair trade and economic practices, and noted the importance of freedom of navigation and overflights in the Indo-Pacific region.
