Last week, about 14,000 people arrived in Mexico from del Rio, Mexico. They set up camp at the bridge that connects the banks of Mexico’s Rio Grande and Texas, forming the border between Mexico and the United States. Most of the immigrants are from Haiti, but also from Central America.

The US Department of Homeland Security announced, Saturday, that it will increase the transportation capacity to expel people who have crossed the border illegally. The ministry said that “Our borders are not open and people should not go on a dangerous journey.”. Migrants must be returned to their countries of origin without being given the opportunity to apply for asylum.

They do not agree on Haiti

According to US officials, the speed of the deportation will depend on the Haitian authorities. Prime Minister Ariel Henry said his government was preparing measures to ensure better living conditions for returnees. However, he did not specify what the steps are.

However, his approach is not shared by all cabinet members. Electoral Minister Matthias Pierre called on the Prime Minister not to accept the deportation of Haitians from the United States. “The economy is in a catastrophic state and there are no jobs,” Minister said.

Haiti is one of the poorest countries on the American continent. Many people have left the country in recent years due to poor economic conditions, criminal gang activities and political instability. Haiti has also been hit by devastating natural disasters in recent years.
