Horizon Forbidden West is undoubtedly one of the biggest games to appear on PlayStation in 2022. With the release date close to late February, it’s no wonder Sony and Guerrilla Games are ramping up game marketing.
Horizon Forbidden West is the cover story for the new Game Informer magazine (No. 342), as several developers have discussed some improvements to this sequel. Narrative director Ben McCaw said the cities would appear more vibrant than the original.
Since the last game, we’ve improved our civilians and settlements with an improved horde system, better animations and much better sound, so everything should sound more realistic and lively.
Perhaps most interestingly, Guerrilla intends to give Aloy more time with the main characters in Horizon Forbidden West.
The main focus we wanted to change from the first game to the second was that you can spend more time with the main characters. This is something we have been constantly trying to do throughout the game. Not only for the characters you meet during the main quest, but also for some of the characters in the sub-quests; I’m not leaving after just one mission.
Finally, McCaw highlighted another important change for Alloy. While at the beginning of the first game she was an outcast, which is greatly underrated, her success in Zero Dawn is incomprehensible to many. Aloy is now often called the savior of the forbidden western horizon, and comes with a growing sense of responsibility.
On one level, Aloy really wants to live by the example of Elizabeth Sobek, her mother’s character, and do everything in her power to stop the ordeal and save the world. Although that means doing it yourself; But he also finds that being loyal is lonely. In the end, it is the bonds with others that make the world worth saving.
