Developing lifelong learning in the region under Baba Hora – SME

The Polish Rural University of Slovakia is the name of the international project of the Babia Hora Association that unites the municipality and town of Namstovo, located in the northernmost part of Slovakia and the Polish cross-border partner – the municipality (municipality) Stryszawa.

The main objective of the project was to develop lifelong learning programs for elderly residents of the Polish-Slovak border (50+) through the following activities:

The first activity was the creation of three educational programs that use innovative forms of education (video recordings, worksheets, and multimedia presentations). Individual programs consist of the following educational topics: Program – Rural Management With topics such as gardening; Garden and landscape architecture. Organic Agriculture; Rural agriculture – the cultivation of traditional varieties and the breeding of traditional animal species on the Slovak-Polish border. Program – Cultural Literacy In the countryside with information and communication technology; the law; The financial and budget alphabet. Fraud and protection from it And the program – traditions and crafts in the countryside And use in rural business with the following topics: Traditional gastronomy. traditional crafts, original methods and forms of production of handicraft products; work in the countryside.

The second part of the project is the training of the target group of project participants using the created study materials. Training was carried out in all 11 municipalities of the Babia Hora Association (Oravska Polura, Sehelny, Rabka, Rabicchi, Zoprohlava, Bobrov, Klin, Vavrika, Oravska Jacinica, Oravski Veseli, Namestovo). Due to the current pandemic, education has in most cases been done online using ICT. The implementation of the project activities also included the organization of practical workshops with demonstrations and the teaching of traditional crafts with the possibility of developing their own business in the countryside.

The created educational materials have created a platform for the development of lifelong learning programs not only on the Slovak but also on the Polish side of the border, which have the potential to further develop and expand and thus contribute to the development of the Slovak-Polish border region.
