Coronavirus: German Health Minister’s office reportedly attacked on New Year’s Eve

Lauterbach told the DPA on Saturday that the office had been attacked again by anti-vaccination and radical opponents of measures against the spread of COVID-19.

During New Year’s Eve, strangers smashed a window in the office of German Health Minister Karel Lauterbach, who is in his constituency, in Cologne. The German news agency quoted a police spokesman as saying on Saturday.

The spokesman added that the State Security Agency took over the investigation into the case.

Lauterbach is a scientist, physician and politician from the German Social Democratic Party (SPD).

The local Social Democrats said it was not clear exactly when the window of the Cologne office had been shattered.

Lauterbach told the DPA on Saturday that the office had been attacked again by anti-vaccination and radical opponents of measures against the spread of COVID-19.

The property has been damaged in the past and Lauterbach has also received threatening emails.

“These people do not respect the society united by the vast majority and are trying to do everything against the spread of the epidemic,” the minister said.

Early on December 10, rioters sprayed the office with inscriptions calling them “Minister of Illness,” “The Killer,” and “Lauterbach’s Psychopath.”
