For the third day in a row, the number of corona virus infections in Britain has risen to an all-time high. In the previous 24 hours, there were 93,045 cases of infection and 111 deaths.
The AFP reported on Friday, citing official figures from British health officials.
The number of victims was recorded by British authorities on Thursday (88,376) and on Wednesday (78,610). There have been more than 11.1 million infections and more than 147,000 deaths in the United Kingdom since the outbreak.
The Prime Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon has announced that the corona virus type Omigron is dominating the country. In this context, he added, “the tsunami that alerted citizens a week ago is coming slowly.”
Wave of Omigron
Welsh Regional Prime Minister Mark Drakeford has called on citizens to prepare for the “wave of Omigran”.
The British government is currently trying to encourage citizens to be vaccinated with the third dose of the Govt vaccine. The AFP writes that the goal is to vaccinate as many people as possible by the end of this year. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants Britain to have the fastest vaccination rate in Europe, in order to avoid “the adverse effects of the spread of the Omigron variant”.
As the AFP points out, Johnson is currently facing challenges to impose more restrictions. However, according to Johnson’s cabinet member Oliver Dowden, “the epidemic measures of the current (British) government are in balance.”
