In Germany, there is only about 67 percent of the coronavirus vaccination.
In Germany, 50,196 new cases of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 were recorded in the past 24 hours, the highest since the beginning of the epidemic. At the same time, this is the first time that the daily increase of infected people has exceeded the 50,000 mark. Referring to the statements of the German authorities told Agence France-Presse.
The number of infected and related deaths in Germany has risen sharply since mid-October. Chancellor Angela Merkel described the current increase in the number of infected people as “dramatic”.
“The epidemic is coming back in a big and new way,” Merkel’s spokesman warned, urging federal authorities to take further measures to curb the spread of the disease.
Local hospitals are also facing an increased influx of COVID-19 patients. The vaccination rate in Germany is still relatively low, only about 67 percent, according to AFP. Many of the regions currently hardest hit, including Saxony, Bavaria and Berlin, have restrictions on non-vaccinated people.
In Berlin, for example, people who are not vaccinated will be banned from entering restaurants, bars, gyms and hairdressers from Monday.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been nearly 4.9 million cases of infection and more than 97,000 related deaths in Germany.
