Triathlete of the Month August 2013
Ritchie Nicholls wins 2nd Triathlete of the Month
He’s only gone and done it again! And justly deserved, as Ritchie Nicholls claimed his 2nd consecutive Triathlete of the Month award following his biggest title yet since joining Brett Sutton and claiming the Ironman 70.3 European Championships. What are the limits for the flying Scotsman? The sky….
It was another tough month to pick the winner here again, with athletes recording top results both internationally and domestically. Find out who our runners up were and if there are any patterns emerging for our Triathlete of the Year award.
The rise and rise of Ritchie Nicholls
Is everyone else super-impressed by the rise and rise of Ritchie Nicholls? Since switching to Team TBB late last year, the fast-running Scot has been in marvelous form capped by last weekends championship win in Wiesbaden, claiming the Ironman 70.3 European Championships.
At the start of the year, I spoke with Ritchie and we joked about how it was inevitable he would end up ‘going long’, given he was living and training alongside Dan Halksworth, the Bayliss’ and Eimear Mullan. At the time Nicholls assured me that his immediate future was over the Olympic distance but that he might experiment with 1 or 2 middle distance races…. well, recent history has shown just how successful that experiment has proved and that he has a great future at the longer stuff.
Up close with triathlon legend Jackie Fairweather
If you think British men are currently dominating short course racing or Aussie fellas ruling the roost at Ironman, consider that from 1992 through to 2000 - the effective length of Jackie Fairweather’s (née Gallagher) triathlon career - eight of the nine women’s International Triathlon Unions champions were Australian.
The ladies from Down Under were dominating the sport like never before and Gallagher, the latest interviewee of the Thanyapura Legends of Triathlon podcast, was playing a leading role.
Triathlete of the Month July 2013
Ritchie Nicholls wins triathlete of the month
Here come the boys! It’s that time of the month again to announce our Triathlete of the Month. Who has produced the top performance in the month of July? Are there any front-runners emerging for our overall Triathlete of the Year award?
This month, for the first time this year, the award has been given to a male athlete. Ritchie Nicholls followed up his Ironman 70.3 UK win with a fantastic win at the Alp du Huez triathlon and a 2nd at Ironman 70.3 Norway. For that reason, he takes the title.
Against stiff competition, the runner up spots are an all male affair - makes a difference from the ladies who have dominated proceedings so far this year! Check out who came close but no cigar.
Triathlete of the month: June 2013
Liz Blatchford wins 2nd Triathlete of the Month award
It’s that time of the month again to announce our Triathlete of the Month. Who has produced the top performance in the month of May? Are there any front-runners emerging for our overall Triathlete of the Year award?
This month, the award is given to Liz Blatchford - her second nomination in 2013 and justly deserved after a cracking 1st place win at Ironman Cairns early this month. She was pushed all the way from some fantastic results from around the globe and a bit closer to home. Find out who has been nominated after June’s performances.
Triathlon Tweets
We all love Twitter, don’t we? Well, it seems like the majority of triathletes do and I happen to follow the very best of them. Everyday I spot funny, insightful, motivating and sometimes irrelevant tweets in my feed – many end up populating the stories you read on this tri-site.
Here’s a round-up of the best, worst and funniest I’ve spotted this week.
Triathlete of the Month - May
It’s that time of the month again to announce our Triathlete of the Month. Who has produced the top performance in the month of May? Are there any front-runners emerging for our overall Triathlete of the Year award?
Winning this months award is one inspirational athlete. Cat Morrison put over a year of frustration and injury behind her to make a stunning comeback to the sport at ‘her’ race in Ironman 70.3 St Croix. Find out a bit more about the Cat Morrison comeback and who else came close, but no cigar, in this month’s awards.
The comeback Kings and Queens of triathlon
This week saw some great returns to the sport after injury
For me, the top news coming out of the world of triathlon has been that of the amazing performance from Cat Morrison in Ironman 70.3 St Croix but also in returning action has been Julie Dibens, Nico Munoz Ward and Paul Hawkins.
Check out this quick update on the comeback Kings and Queens this week!
