alicehector2

Alice Hector has already been in marvelous form this year, returning to triathlon with a ‘point to prove‘. She has already gone about this with wins at the Lisboa International Triathlon and Israman, demonstrating a strong swim throughout in two gun to tape efforts.

Helping her along the way has been her new XTERRA Vendetta wetsuit, part of a new sponsorship deal for Alice and one that she hopes will help her as part of a successful bid to join the Team Scotland squad with a slot in the Commonwealth Games. Alice has reviewed the XTERRA Vendetta suit here.

Find out how she has found it.

Gear review: The Velovault Bike box

velovault 1

Taking your bike away on holiday can sometimes feel like a bit of an ordeal. We’ve all been there - be it the many hours spent working out how to fit it into its box correctly, to the panic at customs as you hand it over to the angry red faced man, who doesn’t look in any fit state to look after anyone, let alone your bike!

So when we were asked to try out the new Velovault bike box we were intrigued. Manufactured in the UK and designed by pro-Xterra triathlete Sam Gardner at Bike Box Online (www.bikebox-online.co.uk), the Velovault is made from recycled plastic and promises to be a ‘multi-functional bike box, designed for easy packing and ultimate protection’.

Review of Apres Recovery hot chocolate drink for athletes

apres hot chocolate

I can imagine worse assignments or jobs than being a chocolate taster or reviewer, so when I came across a new recovery drink aimed at triathletes and cyclists that comes in the form of a hot chocolate malt drink, I knew this would be a product that would get ‘extensive’ testing.

Apres Recovery is a hot recovery drink aimed at the sports and adventure market. New to the market, it has already developed quite a following in the cycling and triathlon audience, not least because of the friendly and charismatic family business that passionately drives the company and can be found at cycling, runs, multisport events and expos near you with free samples and plenty of time given over to explain their product.

surrey human performance

Following the recent launch of the triathlon facility, the Surrey Human Performance Institute welcomed a number of well-known triathletes and triathlon experts to take part in a series of testing programmes, including a cycling lactate test, a running lactate test and a body composition test.

Those that took part included Vanessa Raw, GB Professional Triathlete and member of the British Olympic Triathlon Academy Squad, the hugely experienced Mark Kleanthous, who has completed over 450 triathlons and 36 Ironmans, and Boo Alder, GB Age Grouper and albeit not quite the same level of performer, your own dear Editor, Richard Campbell.

Check out the video and a bit about this super new facility that is available for all triathletes of any level.
