Interview with Jodie Swallow: “The spectacle and progression of standard in long distance triathlon is evolving monthly”
This month you voted Jodie Swallow our Triathlete of the Year 2014 in your thousands, after a brilliant and consisting year bothering podiums and winning big races. It was a seminal year for Swallow, who had left one mentor in Brett Sutton and found another in super-coach Siri Lindley.
We caught up with Jodie for a special interview, to hear about her season and more.
Jacqui Slack and Ben Allen reflect on XTERRA England
This years XTERRA England was a thrilling affair, with South African Conrad Stoltz and American Emma Garrard emerging victorious after a tough and challenging course at the Vachery Estate in Cranleigh.
In the field were world-class talents and returning champions from 2013, Jacqui Slack and Ben Allen. Neither could defend their title, with both posting 4th places in what was a very deep and talented field, but these two are ingrained in the wonderful world of off-road triathlon and this particular event as the cows and fantastic purpose built singletrack of the event itself.
We caught up with Jacqui and Ben to find out how they found the race and what their hopes were for the world championships in Maui, Hawaii.
Interview with pro Alice Hector ahead of The Bastion
Pro triathlete Alice Hector starts as the hot-favourite for this weekend’s iron-distance triathlon, The Bastion, set for the 13th July 2014 at the iconic Hever Castle in Kent.
Hector returned to triathlon after a successful sabbatical from the sport where she focused instead on ultra-running – remaining undefeated during this period of her career. Now she is back to triathlon with some unfinished business, and has already shown what a talent she is by claiming two Scottish national titles and wins at the Israman and Lisboa triathlons.
We caught up with Alice ahead of The Bastion this weekend.
‘What triathlon means to me’
Your editor was recently interviewed by filmmaker Adam Price from Brighton Film School, who is making a short documentary about triathlon. Here’s the results!
Introducing new pro Eleanor Haresign
Eleanor Haresign is a talented racer who has been picking up results for quite a while now, but has recently switched to the longer stuff, following in the footsteps of fellow talented Scottish women Cat Morrison, Leslet Paterson, Ali Rowatt and Jen Stewart.
To kick-start her long distance pro career, Ele chose one of the hardest races on the Ironman circuit, Ironman Lanzarote. She was rewarded with a 10th position, which was good value considering the depth and quality of the field that were attracted to the race this year.
We caught up with Eleanor Haresign for an interview to find out more and how the race went.
Interview with Sam Gardner - 7th at XTERRA New Zealand
Sam Gardner is the country’s most successful off-road triathlete ever, with 9 XTERRA Championship titles to his name and many more podium performances from an amazing career in the sport. Sam was in racing action last week in New Zealand and against a top field he came away with a very creditable 7th overall. Made all the more impressive against the context of a new born baby joining the Gardner family!
We caught up with Sam for a post-race interview.
Interview with Tim Don: “I will race Ironman this year”
This weekend Tim Don continued his march towards continued success on the Ironman 70.3 circuit with a win at Ironman 70.3 Brasil, besting Timothy O’Donnell with a time of 3:46:55. The win was sealed by Don executing one of the biggest weapons in the sport, his fearsome run speed and strength.
We caught up with Tim for an interview, where he spoke about his most recent win in Brazil, his plans to race Ironman in 2014 and who he thinks would win in a battle between him and Ritchie Nicholls. Check it out here.
