Gregg Shrosbree pro debuts at XTERRA Spain
Race report from the upcoming new off-road pro
Gregg Shrosbree is a name for you to watch. As an age-grouper, he came 5th at XTERRA England last year, beating some huge names in the process including the former world champion, Nico Lebrun.
Your editor was providing live commentary and works on the event team for this race, so was delighted to have the opportunity to chat to Gregg after the race and found a likeable, cerebral and talented individual who planned to turn pro in 2014.
This process started at last weekends XTERRA Spain, a race that was marred by issues surrounding the swim start, course marking and course sabotage, which would have surely given Gregg a tough introduction to the world of racing for a living, but one nonetheless that showed he has some potential, holding onto 4th position and gaining until a puncture derailed those ambitions.
Here Gregg writes, originally published on his website, about that experience.
Race winner Nicki Aitken reports on the Maxifuel Eton and Windsor Duathlon
One of the big domestic races this weekend was the Maxifuel Winter Fun Run and Duathlon Series meet 2, held out of Dorney Lake, Eton - featuring traffic-free roads and a cracking atmosphere for the entrants.
Racetime Events member and a member of Team GB’s age group squad for the ITU Long Distance Worlds, Nicki Aitken was the winner of the Standard distance duathlon, winning the race comprehensively in a time of 2:18:51.
Nicki reports on the race and her win here.
From Cranleigh to Maui on a whim
XTERRA England qualifier Andrew Bagnall on his world championship adventure
As an retired Elite Triathlete from the late 80’s and a now serious mountain biker and resident of Cranleigh, the temptation to compete in the local Xterra England Championship just down the road from my house was just too great!
So monies paid and two months of intensive tri training under my belt, I managed to squeeze into my old Snugg wetsuit. A result in its self! Xterra England here we come.
Brett Ashford Half Marathon draws a crowd
Your editor had the great privilege of commentating at the inaugural Brett Ashford Half Marathon this past Sunday, with 500 runners taking on the new 13.1 mile challenge from the Julie Rose Stadium and the surrounding areas in pretty Kent.
Here’s a roundup of all the action from the race director, Liz King at Tri Spirit Events, who will also be hosting the eagerly anticipated Owler iron-distance triathlon later next year.

Beth Fowler reports on Ironman Wales
Regular contributor and elite Ironman athlete, Beth Fowler, took on her home race at Ironman Wales last weekend, in the hope to put behind her a disappointing middle part of the season and find that elusive ‘perfect race’ performance that she has dedicated her sporting career towards.
Things didn’t work out perfectly for Beth, coming 8th Pro and 17th overall, but there were still many positives for her, including a new perspective on her career and renewed enthusiasm for the coming year!
Here is her race report.
IRONMAN UK : A Race Report by David Pearce
I was so annoyed with myself in May last year. I had been lazy and not trained at all for the East Grinstead Sprint Triathlon and had to take the hard decision to pull out due to my lack of fitness. I simply could not envisage the 16 mile bike followed by the 5km run. It would have been too much for me.
Move forward just 15 months and I found myself in Bolton to race Ironman UK - regarded as one of the hardest Ironman’s in the World. The word ‘tumultuous’ was at the forefront of my mind as to my state of mind. Excited yet slightly confused at how crazy this challenge was.
