It was one of the biggest long distance events to hit our shores…. ever! Challenge Weymouth doubled as the ETU Long Distance Championships, which ensured a high-quality age-group field were competing not just for race honours but European titles.
Kit Walker would take the honour of being first age-grouper across the line - here’s his race story.
Race Report - Marc Malloy takes on The Outlaw Half
After completing the Outlaw Half last year it was the first thing in my calendar this year.
Everything about the Outlaw Half is great, a real big event feel, without some of the less positive elements of some of the ‘uber races’. Everyone is friendly, the registration is quick and easy, there are cafes, retailers, the boys at Total Fitness Nottingham are there fixing bikes and doing last minute tune ups (as well as winning the relay event!), you can buy your weight in branded Outlaw gear and you even get free Erdinger Beer…its great!
Throwback report: Alice Hector reminisces on The Bastion at Hever Castle
The Bastion iron-distance triathlon is one of the hardest one day challenges in the world and this event takes place annually at the historic Hever Castle in Kent – with the next race scheduled for the 12th July 2015. This incredible challenge involves swimming 3.8km, cycling 180km and running a full marathon all within the time limit of 17 hours maximum.
After the success of the 2014 event, entry numbers have doubled and the local area will be boosted by visitors attending the event to compete or spectate and have come from across the country and internationally.
Each year Hever Castle welcomes over 7,000 triathletes to the area, across The Bastion and the Hever Castle Triathlon – both part of the Castle Triathlon Series - drawn by the stunning local countryside, beautiful villages and warm welcome afforded from around the country.
One such entrant was Alice Hector from Windsor, an accomplished ultra-runner, who eventually emerged victorious. Here’s her story of the day and how much she enjoyed visiting the area.
Sam Gardner reports from Get Muddy Mauritius
Mauritius is famous in the UK as a honeymoon and luxury holiday destination, so how come it’s now hosting an off-road triathlon, and given the glossy brochures showing amazing beaches, why is it using a small inland lake in the mountainous centre of the Island?
500 cyclists take on 7th edition of Kent’s premier VO2 Cycling Sportive
500 riders took part in the VO2 Cycling Sportive this past Saturday 8th March, with cyclists of all abilities covering one of three stunning courses that took in the sights and roads of Hidenborough and Kent. The three distances on offer were a fun 30km, a challenging 65k and a gruelling 120km.
Race report: Javier Brage qualifies for the ETU Duathlon Champs at Althorp
Javier Brage (Director of Box My Wheels Ltd) enjoyed achieving his 14th place in the Duathlon World Championships earlier this year so much he decided to aim high again. This time the race he entered to qualify for the 2015 Sprint Duathlon European Championships was the Althorp Duathalon, and Jav had to get into the top four. A recent heavy work schedule with frequent trips to the US meant he was undercooked on the starting line so he knew tactics on the day would be important.
Amy Kilpin Race reports from Challenge Almere
A-Race. We all know what that means. The BIG one, the one that counts.
When I found out I had qualified to compete for GBR at the European Long Distance Championships, it was an amazing feeling. I didn’t even realise it was possible at the time. As the year progressed, I soon discovered that many people get this opportunity and there is a divided opinion about whether it is considered an achievement or not, but whatever, I don’t care, I’ll take that opportunity and bank it as a pretty unique experience.
