Canon Europe today announced an expansion of its range of remote camera systems with the rugged CR-X300. It stands alongside the Canon CR-N500, CR-N300 and CR-X500 Rotation, Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) camera models. The CR-X300 provides high-quality 4K video output and support for a variety of IP protocols to meet remote production requirements.
With easy operation and an array of connectivity options, the CR-X300 simplifies remote shooting. This rugged, weatherproof camera is ideal for outdoor environments, especially where financial and space options are limited.
The best 4K picture quality in every light
Equipped with Canon’s advanced imaging technologies, the CR-X300 meets the demand for professional 4K authoring equipment. The heart of the camera is the DIGIC DV6 processor, which produces high-quality 4K UHD images with a frame rate of up to 30 pixels, ten-bit color depth and 4:2 sampling. The CR-X300 uses a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor and the popular Hybrid Autofocus system from Canon. Thanks to this, he can focus quickly and accurately even in low light. A removable infrared filter improves image quality in the infrared portion of the spectrum. Therefore, the camera is ideal for shooting in very low light conditions, such as reality TV shows or nightlife photography.
The CR-X300 uses advanced Canon optical technology and features a fixed lens with 20x optical zoom and a maximum aperture of f/1.8 at the shortest focal length. This also contributes to image quality in low light. Thanks to the built-in progressive ND filter with a maximum value of 1/8 ND, the camera also works in a brighter environment – for example, when shooting on a clear day.
Wide range of image transfer options
Canon PTZ cameras, including the CR-X300, support a range of protocols for video transmission, camera control, and 4K video streaming over IP. Applicable protocols include RTMP/RTMPS and NDI | HXCanon’s standard RTP / RTSP communication protocol and Canon’s newly developed XC protocol, which enables live streaming to selected content delivery network, simplifying production. The XC protocol offers the added advantage of allowing other PTZ camcorders and camcorders, such as Cinema EOS models, to be used in the same production system as the CR-X300. The CR-X300 also offers a variety of connectivity options, including PoE++, HDMI, and 6G-SDI. Thanks to this flexibility, it can be easily integrated into existing production systems and existing workflows.
Improved and easy to use controls
The CR-X300 uses an advanced pan-tilt mechanism with a variable speed ranging from 0.3°/s to 60°/s, allowing the operator to constantly monitor movement. This powerful outdoor camera is compatible with the recently introduced Canon RC-IP100 Controller and IP Camera Remote app, but also with select drivers from other manufacturers. Thus, filmmakers have the opportunity to assemble the equipment as they see fit. With customization options similar to the CR-N300, the CR-X300 can be color matched with other EOS or XF/XA cinema cameras, while settings are optimized for specific conditions and situations such as sports, portrait, low light or reflective.
Sturdy and compact design
The CR-X300 is designed to meet the growing demand for video distribution – whether live or recorded – from outdoor environments such as sporting events or theme parks. Many PTZ cameras use durable casings, while the CR-X300 has a dust- and water-resistant body with IP65 protection, a weatherproof finish, and an interior wiper that ensures a clear image even in rainy weather. The robust body of the camera withstands wind speeds of up to 60 m/s and temperatures from -15°C to +40°C. Weighing around 7kg and featuring a practical handle, the CR-X300 is a very compact and easy-to-carry model ideal for field shooting.
