British MPs blame government action: Previous lockout will save thousands of lives

The reaction of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government to the outbreak was examined by a panel of representatives of various political parties represented in the House of Commons, including government conservatives. The report is based on a months-long investigation.

According to deputies, members of the government did not follow the recommendations of experts or the knowledge gained during previous outbreaks of SARS, MERS and Ebola. COVID-19 finally decided to introduce more drastic measures and locks when high-load hospitals were at risk of collapse.

Britain was more affected than any other country

“A complete lockdown is necessary and should come as soon as possible, in the absence of other strategies such as strict isolation of patients, meaningful testing and tracking mechanism and strict border controls.” This is written in the 150-page report of the parliamentary inquiry

According to the authors, these facts led to the fact that Britain was significantly more affected in the early stages of the epidemic than many other countries. Nearly 138,000 people have been infected with the corona virus in the UK since March 2020.

Members of two parliamentary committees heard 50 witnesses at the hearing, including former Health Minister Matt Hancock and former Johnson chief adviser Dominic Cummings.

The report also praised investment in vaccines

On the contrary, the authors of the report praised the importance of the vaccine and the fact that the government invested in the development of vaccines paid its attention relatively quickly. This contributed to the success of the vaccination campaign in the UK, in which nearly 80 per cent of people over the age of 12 have already been fully vaccinated.

“Efforts to vaccinate people around the world, in which the UK plays a key role, will ultimately save millions of lives.” It was written in the report of the British MEPs, from which the AP quoted.
