Britain has signed an agreement to support the Ukrainian navy

London, Nov 17 (IANS) Britain and Ukraine have reached an agreement to allow Kiev to borrow from London to buy warships and missiles amid rising tensions with Russia. Sky News reported Tuesday night.

The £ 1.7 billion “shopping list” in Ukraine includes the joint production of two landmines, eight rocket ships and one warship, as well as the purchase of weapons for existing ships. Any British help in improving Ukraine’s navy would be considered the Kremlin’s new provocation.

In a joint statement, British Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace and Secretary of Defense of Ukraine Oleksi Resnikov said: “Our governments do not want to be Moscow’s opponents, they do not want to strategically encircle or undermine the Russian Federation.”

The statement came after Wallace’s visit to Ukraine on Tuesday night. At the same time, the agreement comes at a time of growing concern among NATO allies over the massive concentration of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine, as well as on the annexed Crimean peninsula.

“Ukrainian state sovereignty and territorial integrity are undeniable” Britain and Ukraine announced the Department of Defense. Ukraine is not a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), but the Allies have pledged their support in its conflicts with Moscow.

The structural agreement between the Governments of London and Kiev was signed in the UK capital last week. According to Sky News, this is another step in Britain’s long-term efforts to expand Ukraine’s naval capabilities.
