Big changes await drivers from March. Beware of cyclists standing on the sidewalk

Slovak drivers should prepare for the changes that await them in a few months. Behind them is the adopted amendment to the Road Traffic Law, which regulates, for example, the common practice of many drivers not only in major cities and also wants to increase the safety of cyclists through its activation.

The aim of the modification is to clearly define and define the side distance of vehicles when passing at-risk road users. Specifically, it is about overtaking cyclists, as well as pedestrians and users of the increasingly popular scooters. In addition, it is planned to improve public spaces and remove parked vehicles from sidewalks.

The amendment was approved by an overwhelming majority, with 133 of 134 lawmakers voting in favour. The novelty passed the second and third reading, it was approved by the police of the Slovak Republic itself, and in order for the municipalities and police personnel to be able to prepare for the changes, they are scheduled to enter into force on March 1, 2022 .
