London. Two trains crashed Sunday near Salisbury in southwestern Britain. In the crash, 17 people were injured and one driver was trapped in the train.

The accident happened at 18:46 local time when a train collided with an unknown object and derailed after entering the tunnel. The BBC reports that the train derailed, damaging the signal on the tracks, resulting in a second train colliding with the derailed train.

Local rescue services said the crash was “serious” and about 50 firefighters intervened at the scene.

A BBC correspondent said none of the passengers were seriously injured. 17 people were taken to hospital and the trapped driver was rescued and given medical treatment.

Other trains were stopped on the collision track.

“Rescue services are intervening in an accident in the Fisherton subway near Salisbury station … (rescuers) The route is closed for work. We respect the patience of our customers when we do everything we can to respond to the accident,” said Network Rail, a line operator and British company.

According to the BBC, the Railway Accident Investigation Agency has also been called to the scene.
