After a successful performance in the Hlinka Gretzka Cup with a historic position in second place, another international event awaits the Slovak national under-18 hockey team.
From Thursday, he will present himself at the Olympic Hopes Championships in Budapest with a weaker team of cards, but also with a significantly altered roster. Of the team that presented itself in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, there are only seven players in it.
Real “18” coach Ivan Venis admitted that the nomination for the training camp in Pechany and the subsequent tournament in Budapest was born very difficult. At the last moment, the technical staff had to make several corrections in it for various reasons.
“A lot of players refused to participate in the national team camp because they wanted to fight for a place in the clubs, which I was not surprised by, especially after the result of the 18 in the Gretsky Cup. Feneš told hockeysl Slovakia.sk.
At the same time, he added that there are already great menthol hockey players for the current player, who would like to continue with the Eighteen within the Central Coaching Project. Starting soon: “In the current crew, the basis of the central training project group. At least 10 to 12 boys of it are interested in this course that we offer. They want to improve it, they want to use the conditions in Slovakia. We look forward to working with them.”
The year for the seasonal operation of the project will be the Olympic Hopes Championship in Budapest, which was clearly won by the representatives of Slovakia under 18 under the leadership of the current technical staff.
This year, they will compete with peers from Italy, Poland and Hungary. “Any international confrontation is welcome. The match in Budapest may look a little weaker, but it should not be underestimated. We have to prepare well and win the championship.” Added Feneš to the website of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH).
