A moment from last season’s final between Zvolen and Poprad.
Representatives of Tipos Extraliga believe that even in the new year they will confirm the rising format of the competition and once again want to give more space to young players and educate talent for the national team as well.
“Last season, which was under the guise of the epidemic and matches had to be played, some did not even play, we had a lot of problems. However, our partners have supported us and thanks to that we can move forward. Our interest, that is, the interest of the clubs, is first of all to develop “We will work on it and hope to strengthen it every year,” said Anita Budyova, director of the Association of Professional Hockey Clubs (APHK).
The new season will start on Friday, September 24th. Current champion HKM Zvolen will meet newcomer HK Spišská Nová Ves in the preliminary round for the main part. Extraliga has twelve participants in the 2021/22 season. All clubs are Slovak, as DVTK’s Hungarian representative Jegesmedvék Miškovec has decided not to continue in the extra league.
Detva is no longer on the league map, the club’s license has been transferred to Prešov. Each team will play fifty matches in the main part. All teams will meet each other four times, twice at home and twice outside. In addition, each team will play two more matches with regional competitors.
The top six teams after the core segment will ensure direct participation in the playoffs, teams in 7-10. A place in the qualification will be offered. The season will end with the eleventh team after the Czech Republic, and the twelfth will play to remain in the playoffs with the winner of Tepos of the Slovak Hockey League (SHL). If it is an agricultural team, the second qualifier will go to the lottery. If there are two teams of farmers in the SHL Supplement Final, the draw will not be made.
With the exception of some matches, almost the entire previous year was played without fans in the stands. Currently, club representatives believe that the meetings will be watched live by the largest possible number of spectators.
“The clubs are ready to take on the next challenge. From the point of view of the partners, it is important that the fans are in the stands. And they continue to support us.
In the previous days, the clubs were able to participate in the invitation to the Sports Support Fund and receive part of the compensation for the first half of 2021. We hope that the next season will be without any serious complications. We are doing our best to ensure that the new year will happen according to the prepared schedule and preferably also with the fans in the stands,” continued Bode, who stated that nearly 80 percent of the players have been vaccinated, for others the rules of the Slovak health authorities apply:
“The same regulations apply as in other areas, so non-vaccinators should be tested.”
If the stadiums designated for the public close again, the competition department has several platforms ready to bring matches closer to the fans.
“We have contract TV broadcasts and we are in negotiations to increase the number of matches. After experiencing the past seasons, we want to work on bringing as much information as possible to fans via online platforms and social networks. The application will change as well, fans will learn more from behind the scenes and we are also preparing for them different competitions” Budyova said.
17-year-old defender Simon Nemec is also looking forward to the new season, believing he will gradually work his way up amongst the Hong Kong captains Nitra.
“I wasn’t expecting to join the squad so quickly, but I’m happy with it. I think I can really become one of the captains of the team this year, even though I’m only 17 years old, which I will have to prove on the ice,” Nemec said: We haven’t set specific goals at the club, but we definitely want to be in the top six.”
Likewise, his teammate, Poprad striker Philippe Mishar, would like to manage the new season:
“I also think that I will become one of Poprad’s captains. We want to win the title every year, we didn’t succeed last year, and now we are chasing it. The goals are always high. Last year I was upset because Simon was, for example, in the first team of the national team and I am not yet. I haven’t set such goals yet, I’m going step by step, and now I want to get the world championship for under-20 players.”
