The Swiss women’s downhill team continues to sharpen the coronavirus. Camille Rast, Allen Danioth and Melanie Millard will surely miss Tuesday’s slalom slalom race at the World Cup slalom in Zagreb, Croatia, all of whom have gone into isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.
Lara Gotova-Bahramyova, who fought hard with Petra Vlova for the overall World Cup victory less than a year ago, is still out of the competition due to the coronavirus. In the end, for the first time in history, the Slovakian won it, but the experienced Swiss made up for it with two world titles.
Among the trio of Rastova, Danuthova and Millardova, Rastova is doing well in the Olympic slalom season so far. There is the 16th place in the evaluation of the most spinning system, most recently in Austrian Linz with a victory for Petra Flova who took 7th place.
It is not yet certain whether American Michaela Shifrin, who is also pausing to test positive for coronavirus, will start on Seligimi hill above Zagreb on Tuesday. She got it shortly after Christmas, and according to her Norwegian partner Alexander Amodt Kelde, she’s almost healthy, only feeling tired from the symptoms.
One of the FIS race directors, Marcus Waldner, is sounding the alarm in this regard. According to him, the current, more contagious variant of the Omicron coronavirus will soon begin to spread rapidly among men and illustrate the aspirations of individual athletes at the World Cup. The Winter Olympics are scheduled to begin in Beijing in early February.
“It is only a matter of time before Omicron penetrates equally among the men, because it is already evident in the women’s part of the World Championships. The World Cup is currently hanging in the balance, but it is worse from an Olympic perspective. If the best athletes in the world can make it to Beijing, it will be this Little miracle.”
Slovakian Petra Vlova has not yet defeated the Corona virus. Like other skaters, it is vaccinated twice.
On Tuesday in Zagreb, the first round of the women’s slalom will take place from 12:30 pm, and the second round with the top 30 will take place at 4.05 pm. Petra Vlhová will defend the victories of the past two years in one of the most iconic races of the season.
