Challenge Denmark announced
The Challenge Family global series of long distance triathlons has returned to Scandinavia with today’s announcement of Challenge Denmark. Centered in the spectacular Jutland region, the first event will take place on 13 June 2015 over both the full and half distance. It promises to delight athletes and families alike with its unique focus around Legoland Billund Resort.
The swim takes place in Fuglsang Lake in Herning, a city renowned for its sporting events and facilities. The cycle heads south towards Billund. The route is flat and fast and athletes can expect some fast times from this course. The race will go through some of the same parts of the country as the Giro d’Italia did in 2012 when the race visited Denmark.
The run course is centered in and around Legoland Billund Resort and is flat and fast, including a special feature of a lap around the horse racing track before finishing in the heart of Lalandia, home to Denmark’s largest water park and tropical holiday centre.
The Herning and Billund municipalities have worked together in conjunction with race organisers, PeopleWhoCare, to make Challenge Denmark a reality. The mayor of Billund, Ib Kristensen is thrilled and looking forward to the event:
“As Mayor of the Municipality of Billund, I am extremely pleased to welcome Challenge Family. Their values and attitudes fit our own as we are the children’s capital and a great family and tourist destination with millions of visitors who annually visit Legoland Billund Resort. We look forward to showing the many visitors our municipality with its many options.”
The enthusiasm is shared equally by the mayor of Herning, Lars Krarup,
“In Herning, we are proud of being selected, along with Billund, as the new triathlon centre of Jutland. We look forward to welcoming Challenge Family and to receive both the spectators and the many triathletes.” Krarup further adds that the event fits perfectly into the city’s sports event strategy.
Challenge Family CEO, Felix Walchshöfer, was in Billund for the launch of the event and is delighted Challenge Family is back in Denmark, saying the family feeling in Billund is a perfect fit for the world’s fastest growing long distance triathlon series.
“Billund is the home of Lego, which is probably the most recognizable toy brand for families around the world. We are honored to partner with such a prestigious destination and look forward to delivering a triathlon that will really be like no other,” he said.
Athletes will have the choice of racing either the full (226km) or half (113km) distance triathlon at Challenge Denmark or take advantage of Challenge Family’s relay team category.
Registration for Challenge Denmark will open in early May 2014. For further information visit www.challengedenmark.dk.
