Trouble for pro’s at Tristar Milton Keynes

There’s a troubling story brewing in Milton Keynes ahead of the first edition of the Tristar race there concerning the professional race. With just one day to go, Star Events, organisers of the Tristar series, have announced to the athletes that there will be no prize pot for the race – despite advertising that there would be £8,000 in total – with £1,500 going to the winner of the men’s and ladies races.

Whilst the full start list was expected to be announced today – this has been the news coming out instead and professionals like Lucy Gossage, who would have started as a favourite, have been affected. Tristar Milton Keynes was one of the few races in the UK at the middle(ish) distance to offer substantial prize money and quite a few pro’s based domestically would have chosen to race here on the basis of saving on travel etc ahead of racing on more established races and brands such as Ironman 70.3 Antwerp.

Lucy Gossage has had an amazing first half of the season – claiming national and international titles along the way and really marking her out as a top talent at the longer distances.

However a nasty crash and subsequent tough (by her high standards) day out at Ironman 70.3 UK has led to some self-doubt creeping into her work. In a revealing blog post, Lucy reveals more and lays out her plans for the coming season.

Interview: Joe Skipper on his Marshman win and targeting Ironman UK 70.3

Joe Skipper National Middle Distance Champs 2011

Fresh from smashing the field at Marshman, the first middle distance UK tri of the year, is Joe Skipper – a National Middle Distance champion.

I caught up with this ambitious triathlete who has already won Marshman, came 6th at the recent Tristar Cannes and has just returned from a brutal training camp with former Outlaw winner Paul Hawkins. This guy likes to train hard.

In this interview, Joe speaks about a very good 3 weeks in his career and how he hopes this will prove a spring board for top performances in some of Britain’s biggest long distance races.
