Interview with Rich Sumpter

Rich Sumpter

Former British Sprint Triathlon Champion on going long…

Rich Sumpter is a sprint triathlete of some pedigree… In 2011 he was crowned the British Sprint Champion and followed this up (in an injury hit year) in 2012 with victories at Leicester Triathlon and Bedford Triathlon. He also signed up with developing race stable, Team Racetime-USN.

This year Rich is looking to use that speed over the longer distances and will be competing at the Vachery Triathlon (a huge new middle distance race) and the 70.3 series with an eye to Las Vegas qualification. He has one eye on Kona 2016…

I caught up with Rich to hear more about this exciting new change of direction.

Rich Sumpter to target Vachery Middle Distance Triathlon

Former British Sprint Triathlon Champion (2011) and Racetime-USN team member, Rich Sumpter, is the latest elite triathlete to declare for the Vachery Triathlon, held on the 21st July in Cranleigh, Surrey.

Sumpter is the latest elite triathlete to announce his intentions to race the Vachery Middle Distance Triathlon and joins the likes of Sam Gardner, Joe Skipper and Doug Hall on the startline. Rich Sumpter has winning pedigree, with a resume that includes that championship win in 2011 and wins last year at Leicester Triathlon and Bedford Triathlon. The question is, can he step up to the middle distance challenge that the Vachery Triathlon offers and take a big victory in Surrey come race day?

Team Racetime end-of-season review

Team Racetime Image

Racetime Race Team just finished their second season since forming in 2010 and you would definitely say it’s been a success. This group of talented multi-sporters have between them picked up some big results internationally and domestically, whilst the team itself has gone from strength-to-strength with some quality sponsors joining them and media coverage garnered both on this site and elsewhere.

This site, naturally, has focussed on the teams achievements at middle and longer distances but it is worth noting the hard work going on at youth, developmental level and shorter distances, not forgetting the quality triathlon races the group put on.

Here we round up the performances of the team in 2012 and we look forward to the future.

With a stable of impressive long distance athletes racing for Racetime this year, including Rich Sumpter and Craig Twigg, I caught up with Johnny to find out a bit more about the team and its aims for 2012.
