Nuclear Pro Line-up revealed for Ironman 70.3 UK

Phil Graves wins Ironman UK

One of the hottest line-ups have been revealed for this years edition of Ironman 70.3 UK, which promises to be the best race yet at Wimbleball.

In the men’s race we have every previous winner since the move to Wimbleball, a previous Ironman World Champion, the fastest Ironman Brit, up-and-coming stars and someone from ITU racing who is obviously at a loose end this Summer…

The ladies is no less special and the 1-2-3 from last year will be contesting the title again – but will face a further challenge from Corinne Abraham who will want to perform well on home soil.

What a race beckons! Without further ado, here is the line-up:

Lucy Gossage, who has been in stunning form for 2012, is in a race against time in order to be fit to race the Ironman 70.3 UK race at Wimbleball on 17th June.

The news follows a bike crash whilst out on a training ride with race rival Eimear Mullan this past Saturday.

Ironman legend Chris McCormack will be racing Ironman UK 70.3 this year as part of his preparations for Hawaii. This follows his disappointment at not making the Olympic Australian team yesterday.

The busy Antipodean will be attempting to validate his Kona ticket this weekend at Ironman Cairns before flying to the UK to race in what he termed ‘the hardest 70.3 in the World’ the last time he raced here.

This is stunning news for the Wimbleball race – to attract yet again one of the sports superstars to our shores to race against the best of British. The 2010 World Champ won’t have it all his own way though – Phil Graves is here and means business and other notable names are entered including Joe Skipper, Paul Hawkins and last years winner Mikel Elgezabel.

Paul Hawkins enters Bala Middle and Ironman UK 70.3

Paul Hawkins Triathlete

Hot off the heels from yesterday’s interview, Paul Hawkins has announced that he will be racing at Bala Middle and Ironman UK 70.3 next month.

Bala was Hawkin’s first race at the middle distance and the Welshman will be hoping to challenge for the win at this special Welsh course. Ironman UK 70.3 will however, be very important to his season as he aims to podium on the domestic M-dot series this year. He’ll have tough competition at Wimbleball in the shape of Philip Graves, Joe Skipper and reigning champion Mikel Elgezabel.

Phil Graves enters Ironman UK 70.3

Phillip Graves wins Ironman UK

Previous champion, Phil Graves has announced that he will be racing again at Ironman UK 70.3.

Graves has demonstrated that he is fighting fit this year by blitzing the swim and bike at Ironman Lanzarote, before withdrawing on the run after 13 miles.

He is more than capable of winning this race, which is now only 3 weeks away and for me has installed himself as the favourite.

IRONMAN 70.3 UK organisers have announced that they are to release 50 places into the closed Ironman 70.3 UK on a first come first served basis.

The additional places have become available due to some changes made to the setup at the venue which has freed up more space and the introduction of a 2 wave start allowing for the 50 additional entries.

Interview: Joe Skipper on his Marshman win and targeting Ironman UK 70.3

Joe Skipper National Middle Distance Champs 2011

Fresh from smashing the field at Marshman, the first middle distance UK tri of the year, is Joe Skipper – a National Middle Distance champion.

I caught up with this ambitious triathlete who has already won Marshman, came 6th at the recent Tristar Cannes and has just returned from a brutal training camp with former Outlaw winner Paul Hawkins. This guy likes to train hard.

In this interview, Joe speaks about a very good 3 weeks in his career and how he hopes this will prove a spring board for top performances in some of Britain’s biggest long distance races.

Interview: Natalie Barnard talks her Lisboa podium and 2012 targets

Natalie Barnard Lisboa Podium

Natalie Barnard, the former national swimming champion turned triathlete – recently showed her strength across the three disciplines at the Lisboa International Triathlon. She came third in what was a good middle-distance field despite problems with her training schedule in the run up.

Natalie has also been announced for Ironman UK 70.3, so I thought it a good time to interview her on her recent good performance and how she feels she will do against the best of British over 70.3 miles.
