McMahon and Kessler win at Ironman St. George

A tough day for the Brits racing

In its first outing as a 70.3 race, Brent McMahon and Meredith Kessler would battle in Utah to take the Ironman 70.3 North-American Championships and with it a share of the $75,000 and the large 1,500 KPR on offer.

The title and prize money had attracted an extremely strong field, that also included British names in the PRO race such as the reigning Ironman World Champion Leanda Cave, Emma-Kate Lidbury, Lesley Paterson, Joel Jameson and Paul Amey. As things developed, the Brits would find it hard to make an impact against the motivated field of North Americans competing for the title.

Triathlete of the Month: April 2013

triathlete of the month_edited-1

It’s that time of the month again to announce our Triathlete of the Month. Who has produced the top performance in the month of April? Who is an early front runner for the prestigious Triathlete of the Year award?

This months winner is none other than the fabulous Lucy Gossage – who successfully defended her European Powerman Long Distance Duathlon championship title in very exciting fashion. Find out how Lucy took the title and who was ‘close but no cigar’ this month.

Emma-Kate Lidbury wins Ironman 70.3 Texas

Results from Ironman 70.3 Texas and ICAN Marbella

Emma-Kate Lidbury would take her 5th Ironman 70.3 title this weekend at Ironman 70.3 Texas, just a week after a shoulder dislocation had ruled her out of Ironman 70.3 Oceanside. A further seven days recovery was all it would take for Lidbury to put her injury frustrations behind her and win ahead of Kelly Williamson and Caitlin Snow. Will Clarke was also in action.

Over in Spain, Joe Skipper was racing a major triathlon for the first time this year and Nico Munoz Ward would be dusting off the cobwebs after a year out with a shoulder-knacker at ICAN Marbella.

Lidbury looking for big win despite injury concerns

Racing in far warmer conditions than us sitting here in England are the athletes preparing to tackle California based race, Ironman 70.3 Oceanside. All eyes will be on what is the biggest race on the circuit this weekend in an event contested by the likes of Rachel Joyce, Emma-Kate Lidbury and XTERRA World Champion Lesley Paterson.

On the men’s side, our interests are represented by James Hadley and Robbie Wade.

Whilst Ironman racing is never plain sailing, matters have been complicated somewhat for Lidbury who has decided to race despite recently dislocating her shoulder. Can she pull of a big result against the odds? Check out the preview here…

HUUB sponsor Emma-Kate Lidbury

Four times Ironman 70.3 winner Emma-Kate Lidbury is the latest top triathlon talent to hook up with leading wetsuit company HUUB.

Lidbury will join the likes of Johnny and Alistair Brownlee on the HUUB squad in what is perhaps the strongest stable of athletes to choose a wetsuit manufacturer ever.

Weekend Triathlon Results: 1st-3rd March

Nick Baldwin and Dan Halksworth also shape their seasons

PRO Emma-Kate Lidbury has entered her first race of the season in 2013 and will be racing at the iconic Escape from Alcatraz triathlon on the 3rd of March.

Nick Baldwin has also further shaped his season by confirming that he will be racing PRO at Ironman 70.3 UK, whilst Dan Halksworth has hinted that he may not defend his Ironman UK title and will instead attempt to qualify for Kona through races that offer higher KPR – with Ironman Frankfurt a considered possibility.

Gossage stuns again by winning Challenge Barcelona

Lucy Gossage Challenge Barcelona

Lucy Gossage once again this season defied her own expectations by taking the title at Challenge Barcelona. The performance was as impressive as the result as she joined that elusive sub-9 hour club, one of only 6 British ladies to have done so.

Meanwhile in the men’s race, Joe Skipper was making his long distance debut after a solid season at middle distance racing and he too went beyond anyone’s predictions by smashing it under 8.30 hours and taking 5th overall! In what was an incredible race for both, Challenge Barcelona provided an end of season thrill that was worthy of the last Challenge Europe race of the season.

Also in action elsewhere was Emma-Kate Lidbury and Mel Brand – catch up with the weekend long course action right here!
