The ETU and Powerman have agreed that the prize fund for the European Duathlon Championships on 20th/21st April is 10,000€. This represents good news for defending champion Lucy Gossage and her fellow domestic contenders David Vaughan and Matt Moorehouse. It also represents another decent pay day on the pro circuit close to home.

Registration for this event is now open and can be made at www.powerman.nl until 7th March 2013. Entries after this date will go into the open race.

Lucy Gossage added another title and trophy to the cabinet yesterday in Zofingen. Already the European Long Course Duathlon Champion, Lucy claimed silver on the World stage and cemented her place at the top table of long course racing.

Regular readers will know by now that I’m a big fan of the long course talent Lucy Gossage and have covered her season extensively, but this still is a stand out result in a remarkable year for a second year pro. Congratulations Lucy and below is a more in-depth report!

Weekend preview: Powerman, Helvellyn and Ironman 70.3 Ireland

Lucy Gossage wins British Elite Duathlon 2012

Tons of race action this weekend but the two biggies are being held over at the Powerman Zofingen Long Distance World Championships and the Ironman 70.3 Ireland race. The likes of Eimear Mullan and Lucy Gossage will be hoping to add another win to their records but it should be quite difficult for a variety of reasons.

Also running is the Helvellyn middle distance race, an iconic fixture on the UK triathlon circuit and a few of our long course racers are trying their luck against Brownlee-Gomez at the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championships. Read on for the full preview!

We have another biggy on the race circuit this weeken – the Swiss town of Zofingen will be hosting the ITU Long Distance Duathlon World Championships again this year and this is one of the most hotly contested multisport titles on the circuit.

The race format is over a 10km run, 150km bike and 30km run distance and there are a few tough sections in each circuit – it wouldn’t be Switzerland if there wasn’t hills and mountains to negotiate! The top draws here are the defending world champions, Melanie Burke (NZL) and the seemingly invincible Joerie Vansteelant (BEL) – but there are also a number of British and Irish athletes to look out for, and there is enough talent amongst them to grab a podium or better!

Gossage takes a title and lots more long course action

Powerman Holland

Despite it being a relatively quiet weekend on the international circuit – the pro’s and elites from the British Isles still conspired to put in performances that made it a very interesting and successful weekend all around.

Lucy Gossage will of course rightly take the plaudits for taking the title of European Long Distance Duathlon Champion – but she wasn’t the only pro in action at this race or indeed elsewhere. Read the rest of the article to find out who was in action this weekend.

Long course triathletes in action this weekend

Whilst the headlines were being made in Fuerteventura and Mallorca, several results elsewhere have trickled in through the magic of Twitter from UK and Irish long course pro’s racing elsewhere.
